How is Noora and Mari doing?

Kysyimme ystäviltämme miten meillä menee. Tässä vastaukset. Totuus on jossain rivien välissä. :)

"Mari on aina cool ja ok. Kun me ollaan yhdessä, me vitsaillaan aina.

-Siisi

Olet rakas!
Noora… oot muuttunut paljon. Olet rakas mussu." -Josh

"Marilla menee tosi hyvin, ainakin musta. -Noora
"Toukasta perhoseksi kolmessa kuukaudessa!
Varsinkin niitä joissa saa kuunnella Nooran kikatusta." - Mari

We asked our friends how we are doing. Here are the answers, the truth is somewhere between. :)

"Mari is always cool and ok. We joke around all the time when we are together.
Noora is always so quiet and she speaks only with few words as if she is counting them." -Tony

"Papa-Mari. Hows Mari doing depends on her moods. First you need to check her face, and if she looks like she does in the mornings, you better leave her alone. Mari is doing great, she's dancing and makes people around her smile. "You shake like an african lady!" this is what she hears a lot. What else I can say about my finnish papa? Mari is like a wind… I'm glad that I met her, and have her around.
Mama-Noora. -You want porridge today?, Noora is my finnish mama who takes care of me but if I do something stupid, I rather tell Mari about it… Noora says what she wants, and she has a  very strong personality. For this reason I love our conversations. When I arrived to the guest house, the walls were empty but now you can only imagine that she has created this colorful Noora world on our walls. I enjoy her company everywhere we go, at the gym, outside at our veranda or somewhere on the streets of uganda. Noora started to love this country, and she is doing good." -Lina

"MARI SHAKES - it means that she is happy! She makes pancakes - it means she cares! She hugs - it means she cares more. She will realize it soon that Uganda is another home to her. Noora eats porridge every morning - very finnish! And is often busy with counseling everybody. Beside that, she is studying Uganda full on, and is going to be an expert very soon! " -Siisi

"Mari is doing great, she is so outgoing! I you wan't to laugh and smile the whole day, put on music and watch her dance. Trust me on that! She is a strong lady, just take a look at her right hand WOOOP! She's funny, and looks good. How Noora is doing… I say good. She's met many people and made some friends. Mornings are difficult especially when there's no breakfast, trust me you have to have some unless you want to mess up her day. On the other hand she is cool, welcoming, caring and loving. MOI MOI PUS" - Malcolm

"Maama-Mari. Mari, you have always been the craziest, and I like that crazy "Damien" and due to the fact that you're my mama here. I think Uganda has a place in your heart now. You go out a lot but lately and you've met new people. And one more thing - SALSA! You should get serious with it! I <3 you.
Noora… You've changed a lot. I had this impression that you are tough, strict and no nonsense lady. But now I think I know the real Noora. I seriously like the fact that you are opening up around me and others. I love you muss." -Josh

"Mari is doing really ok, as far as you ask me. She speaks, dances, laughs, eats, goes to toilet, sleeps, works, makes jewelry, knits, drinks tea and sometimes she thinks. Together we have experienced more than I could have ever thought. We've had difficulty, lovely, great, boring, funny, hilarious, confusing, but mostly life loving moments together, and all of them makes me happy. Mari loves to do laundry. She grinds her teeth at night. She comes home when the mosque starts to shout prayers, time I'm sleeping. Three times she left me outside our room, taking the key with her when going out. But after cooked for me and appeased. She is lovely." - Noora

"From caterpillar to beautiful butterfly in three months. This butterfly flits around on the streets of kampala like in her hometown. She is a fish in a sea in any situations, and seems to enjoy the role being a strong, and feminine woman. She had to confront her own weaknesses which she has turned to strengthness . I can have great conversations daily with this amazing and smart person. Especially the ones where I can listen to her giggle." - Mari

One week in Uganda

Yksi viikko elämästämme täällä:
Opetettiin koulussa käytöstapoja. Näyteltiin erilaisia tilanteita. Oppilaat saivat tehtäväksi sanoa toisilleen huomenta aamuisin ja hyvät yöt iltaisin. Opetettiin joitakin muitakin asioita, kuten ihmisen kehonosia. Puhuttiin myös rakkaudesta. Maanantaina taloon saapui 14 brittiä yhdeksi yöksi, heräsimme heidän kiljuntaan keskellä yötä, tilanteen aiheuttaja oli pieni koppakuoriainen. Me ei kiljuttu, vaikka samalla viikolla talolta löytyi rotta, jota koitimme kaikin tavoin jahdata ja saada taivaan porteille. Sitten näkyi hiiri. Ja yöllä meitä söi kirput. Vaadittiin toimistoa toimimaan. Oli myrkytyksen aika. Poistuttiin talolta evakkoon vuorokaudeksi myrkyn takia.

We were teaching social skills at school, acting out different situations. Homework was to say good night and good morning to fellow students. We also taught other things like human body parts. And talked about love. On monday we got new people at the house, 14 british teenagers. One of the girls found a small bug inside her mosquito net, started screaming in the middle of the night and woke the whole house up. We weren't screaming even when we found a rat in the house, which we tried to chase to death. Then we spotted a mouse, and at night we were feeding flees with our own blood. We demanded the office to act. It was time to use poison. We had to stay away for 24 hours. When we got back we were doing laundry for four hours. As for cultural events we wen't to see live band on wednesday. On our way to the venue, matatu scratched our friends car. It took two hours to solve the situation, and at the police station when things started to calm down, guys used our skin color as to build more drama: "After this these foreigners will tell that you shouldn't come here, its unsafe, and they're really scared". Because we were unaware what the guys were saying about us, seeing our smily faces, and "we're fine, it's all good" weren't right lines to say. In this week Noora saw monkeys, Hitler, ate crickets, fell down on the kitchen floor, and saw football match Senegal-Uganda. Mari on the other hand danced her ass off, went to the Street Art festival where she ran into Rambo, and was caught on camera. Friend who made a song for her was aired on friday on the biggest radio station in Uganda. We also raised a toast or two to Mari's brother who got married on saturday. Congrats to Juha and Nanda! Pretty ordinary week, right?!
